RAHC's RPHTDC Emergency Skills Training Course
On the 13th and 14th December, 2011, RAHC hosted two days of emergency skills training in conjunction with the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) called the ‘Remote Pre-Hospital Trauma and Disaster Course’ (RPHTDC) in Canberra. Fiona Wake (Clinical Manager) and Christine Kuhl (Office and Logisitics Assistant) attended the course along with many of RAHC's General Practitioners as well as some of our Nurses. The NCCTRC instructors were very experienced and skilled emergency medicine specialists and increased the participants confidence to perform appropriately and safely in emergency situations. The very interactive sessions included strapping participants into a KED, triaging patients and also a major incident activity which involved a car crash with a rolled vehicle.
It was a very interesting and informative event with all participants enjoying the Professional Development opportunity provided by RAHC. A big thank you for the RAHC clinical team for organising the training including the food and welcome dinner held in Gungahlin. This dinner was a great chance for the health professionals to meet and socialise with the RAHC staff, Fiona Wake, Chris Kuhl and in particular Annette Walker, the Placement Manager, who is the consult for all GP placements. RAHC has since received feedback from many of the General practitioners that it was a well put together course and very informative with the facilitators being very knowledgeable in their subjects.
