About Giving Vaccines (AGV)

Section 90 of the NT Poisons and Dangerous Drugs Act requires Registered Nurses working in remote and community health to have completed the NT’s About Giving Vaccines (AGV) course in order to legally administer vaccines. The legislation and its enactment does not allow for recognition of prior learning or similar courses from other jurisdictions at this stage. However there is a window period allowance for nurses/midwifes who have a vaccination qualification from another Australian State or Territory.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Annual competency of BLS certification is required by RAHC to carry out a placement and for credentialing.  RAHC offers a BLS assessment via a web-based assessment and in person practical assessment.

Remote Emergency Course (REC)

This two and a half day course provides health practitioners the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills essential to provide management, care and treatment in common emergency situations encountered in the remote setting. The course is designed to provide the remote/rural practitioner with information to promote confidence to deliver safe and quality care to the patient.

Maternity Emergency Course (MEC)

The MEC course is a two and a half day workshop targeting maternity emergency care for non-midwives working in a remote or isolated setting with no Formal/ Regular Obstetric/ midwifery service.  This course is designed for non-midwives or non-practicing midwives (over 5 years) and is specifically suitable for Registered nurses, Aboriginal Health Worker, Paramedic / Ambulance officer, Doctor practising in remote or isolated clinical practise settings.

Family Planning NT:  Well Women’s Course ( Plus Others)

Family Planning NT was establish in 1973 as a non-profit organisation to promote Sexual Health and Rights for everyone.  The Organisation is supported by the national body Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia (SH&FPA). Family Planning NT is committed to improving the Health of all sectors of the NT community and as such contributes to policy in sexual health and operates as a Registered Training Organisation promoting workforce development. Well Women’s Health Screening Course
The training provides participants with knowledge and skills in performing Well Women’s Health checks including correctly completing pap smears and STI checks as well as addressing general women’s health issues.  This training is composed of a five day interactive workshop providing the clinical knowledge and skills required to undertake work as a Well Women’s Nurse.  The participant then demonstrates this skill and knowledge through submission of an open book test and demonstration of clinical competency in six clinically supervised well women’s checks and the documentation of fifteen Pap smears.
