Registered Midwives

         

We need Registered Midwives to fill short-term placements in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory. Placements are paid and from as little as three weeks. Cultural and Clinical training is provided before the placement commences.

Qualifications, experience and documentation required:

Registered Nurse – Midwife – Independent Practice

1.                   Completion of an education program leading to registration to practice as a Registered Midwife.
2.                   Unrestricted Registration to practice as a Registered Midwife.
3.                   Post graduate experience of at least two years in Midwifery.
4.                   Minimum of 250 hours clinical practice in midwifery every 12 months.
5.                   Evidence of continuing professional development in the past 12 months.
6.                   Proof of midwifery competence in the following technical skills:
a.                   Skilled perineal repair and speculum examination
b.                   Skilled in IV cannulation and venipuncture
c.                   Management of neonatal resuscitation
d.                   Management of maternal resuscitation
e.                   Management of shoulder muscle dystocia
f.                     Management of postpartum / antepartum haemorrhage
g.                   Management of pre-eclampsia / eclampsia
h.                   Management of cord prolapse
i.                     Management of undiagnosed breech presentation
j.                     Intrapartum foetal monitoring including the use and interpretation of the cardiotocograph (CTG)
2.       Two referees who can attest to the nurse’s clinical competence, i.e. Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, Supervisor or Clinical colleague.
 
 Registered Nurse - Midwife
 
  1. Bachelor of Nursing, or equivalent
  2. Completion of an education program leading to registration to practice as a Registered Midwife.
  3. Unrestricted Registration to practice as a Registered Midwife and General Nurse.
  4. Post graduate experience of at least two years in Midwifery.
  5. Minimum of 250 hours clinical practice in midwifery every 12 months.
  6. Evidence of continuing professional development in the past 12 months.
  7. Evidence of current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced (Cardiac) Life Support (ALS/ACLS) certificate and Neonatal resuscitation.
  8. Two referees who can attest to the nurse’s clinical competence, i.e. Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, Supervisor or Clinical colleague.
