We are pleased to introduce Lisa Breakwell as RAHC’s new Clinical Coordinator for Central Australia and Barkly region.
Regular RAHC placement, registered nurse Lisa Breakwell, may be known to many of you from working remote. Lisa has completed 22 placements with RAHC since 2015, working predominately in Central Australian communities. She brings a wide range of clinical knowledge and diversity to the role, especially in Trauma and Primary Health Care. Lisa has an extensive clinical background in Primary Health Care nursing and preventative program work in communities within rural, urban and more recently remote health settings.
Tanya Brunt, National Manager of RAHC, said, “We would like to welcome Lisa to the RAHC Team who brings with her strong skills, insights and experience to her role as Clinical Coordinator. Lisa understands the nuances of working remote and how important support is to keep health professionals coming back for more placements. With her in-depth and firsthand knowledge of Indigenous health issues, she will be a great asset to new-to-remote health professionals.”
Remote nursing has always been something Lisa wanted to do. According to Lisa, "I wanted to take up remote nursing as a new challenge but never got around to it as I was a busy single mum in a full-time emergency job. RAHC gave me the opportunity to explore remote work and the short-term placements gave me a great exposure to working in a remote setting. Now I want to help other health professionals take the plunge and be part of the effort to improve Indigenous health in the NT.
“Prior to starting my placements with RAHC, I completed many of the RAHC eLearning modules. They helped me to prepare, gain an understanding of and confidence in working within remote Indigenous communities," she added.
Lisa will provide clinical support to the health professionals (HPs) coming to Central Australia and Barkly region to undertake remote health placements and will support the RAHC team. She will also be responsible for the Remote Educator portfolio and will support the new-to-remote health professionals going through their first placement. Lisa will work out of the RAHC office in Alice Springs.
