AMA Indigenous Health Report Card Released

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has released the AMA Indigenous Health Report Card 2012-13. Titled The Healthy Early Years – Getting the Right Start in Life, the report discusses the rights of Indigenous children to have the best start in life. The report also contains a number of recommendations to improve Indigenous health outcomes.

Some of the recommendations discussed in an article on the AMA website include developing a national plan to expand maternal and child services, such as:

  • Antenatal services
  • Childhood health monitoring and screening
  • Access to specialists
  • Parenting education and life skills
  • Services targeting smoking, substance abuse, nutrition and mental health.
