Medical Alert - Reports of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease

The latest Northern Territory Department of Health (NT DoH) Centre for Disease Control (CDC) newsletter has been distributed and issued a notice regarding reports of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in some communities in the NT.

According to the newsletter, HFMD is more than likely due to Coxsackie virus A6. Symptoms have been mild and short-lived. Exclusion from school and child care is recommended until the blisters have dried.

For more information about HFMD, to subscribe to NT DoH CDC newsletters or access various disease factsheets relevant to remote health professionals who work in the NT, please visit the NT DoH CDC web page.
